So I recently decided to completely redo my tank starting with a new stand. It is 8"s taller to allow for a new sump that will replace the fx5s I'm currently running.I might still run 1 of them with carbon though.
The stand so far. uploadfromtaptalk1380515776452.jpg

I would suggest some vertical supports on the 60" spans. Especially if the tank is glass. You can install them so that they are removable in case you ever have to remove your sump.

Reeflo recommends using putty to get a watertight seal on the threaded fittings, which in my experience has been good advice. I've using Rector Seal 5 with good results (mine leaked when I was using only teflon tape).

Looking forward to seeing your progress. Looks to be a cool setup.

I actually cut the wood for the center supports already. Bottom frame is not attached yet in order to be able to make it through the door.

I will take your advice on the putty seeing as I don't like leaks lol.

Just waiting on a diamond hole saw that's not supposed to be here until thurs.
Going to be adding a UV also

Made a little more progress today drilled 3" hole in the glass and installed drain bulkhead. Going to make a long diy strainer that is almost the width of the sump it won't be much longer before she is up and running!!!

Anyone use Long 90º street elbows on the pump input with good results? I am running out of space under the stand. I know its not recommended but I don't don't think I have a choice at this point

IF it was me I'd try a rubber 2" collar instead of the union. IF that still doesn't fit I'd go (2) 45s before I'd do a 90. Can you just set the sump up on the lip of the stand or is that going to screw everything up? I'd sure think that would make it easier to siphon as well..... That way you didn't waste a union and a bulkhead fitting.......

Could you have used a submersible pump and not had to drill the hole in the sump? I'm not saying you should have, I'm just wondering if you could have. I'd like to have a sump one day and if I could do it without drilling glass I'd like to.

I think i might do the 2 45s and just ad another union+ball valve assuming I can make them fit.

I could have but when I was looking at pumps typically the submersible pumps moved less gph

I ordered 30 liters of pond matrix that I'm still waiting on so I will just add it to the biomax ceramic that's in my fx5s when it comes in order to avoid a cycle

Had to go with a 90º but after 15 mins of looking around homedepots plumbing dept I decided to go with a 3" 90º with 2 reducers on each end.
I have helpers coming over tomorrow to move the tank. Had to buy a bigger net for tomorrows fishing. Last time I moved my male he was about 8" now he is closer to 15" LOL uploadfromtaptalk1381252147950.jpg
