Ok, so I'm looking into getting either a single aqueon pro 250 watt heater for my aquarium or 2 150 watt aqueon pros (they don't make 125, it's either 100 or 150) and placing them at each side of the tank. Which do you think would do best overall heating the tank?

2x heaters always better than one but I would use 2x 200W instead of 2x 150W
For me I would recommend using Jagger heater.

just use 1 eheim jager 300w heater. its summer right now
so in hotter states like california you dont even really need
a heater once the water temp reaches room temperature.
also if you want to even out the heat you place your heater
above a airstone and the air bubbles will spread out the heat
throughout the tank more evenly.

I high recomend titanium heater + termostate combo.
It cost litle more... But it's almost Bulletprof.

Two heaters is always better IMO. If your pocket book can handle it go with the higher wattage heaters, and if you still have more moolah to spend get a heater controller and titanium heating elements. One controller and 1000W or more of heater control is possible.

I prefer 2 smaller heaters as opposed to 1 larger heater. The ideal sizing is to get a heater that is not strong enough to heat the tank past 90F by itself, but is capable of keeping the tank at a temp of 70-74F by itself. Then get two of those. (Keep in mind that heaters will work with ambient temps, so if the room is kept cool (68F) or allowed to get very warm (85F), then that could change your sizing.)

1) if one fails and goes off, the other won't so the tank temp won't plummet to deadly levels
2) if one gets stuck on, it's smaller and doesn't have the power to kill your fish
3) the amount of electricity consumed is essentially the same regardless of whether you have 1 large heater or 2 small heaters

The drawback from 2 heaters is you need an extra plug and if it's not in a sump, your tank display has 1 extra heater to hide or see. For me, the risk of losing fish outweighs those concerns.
