Since I got so many people asking me about my filtration system I thought I'd put up some pics. My 250G hs 2 Wet Dry Filter sump. Their dimensions are 33"x16"x16" each. The sumps are filled with different bioballs combinations, ceramic rings and lava rocks. Each sump has a Quiet One 4000 pump from Pentair Aquatics which is rated at 1017 GPH (3850 LPH) each, and each pump is 50 watts ONLY! This pump is the best bang for buck when it comes to GPH/Watt. I have Wes (fugupuff) to thank for pointing that out to me and KP (The Mule) for recomending them to me months earlier. The baskets you see around te pump is to prevent the media from caving in to the pump space in case I need to do pump maintenance. The PVC pieces you see are simply for shelter for the crayfish.

The sumps are joined in the center and I also added a light strip under the cabinet so I can see things better. I have a digtal thermometer in the left sump and the heater controler in the left as well. The actual heater is in the right sump and I only have 1 x 500 Watt heater for my whole tank and so far it's been working great. I use the Azoo Silica Glass Heater.

I keep crayfish in my sump to eat up all the excess dirt/food that made it through the mechanical filter. So far they have been thriving in the sump and have even spawned in it. I have some baby crayfish crawling all over the place.

I didn't take any pics of the over flows but in each over I have a Bushy Nose Pleco living there. They help clean up the muck that builds up in the overflow. At first I thought they would starve after they finished everything, but I only fed them the first week they were in there and they have been there more than 6 months and their bellies are in no way flat or cave in. They have actually been thriving in there with the constant flow of water and have grown fat!

Anyways, enough blabbing and onto the pics.....

Why thank you.

I haven't cleaned it yet. so far the crayfish are doing a great job.

My Tank, Cabinet and filter were all custom built for me by my good freind Lajudoka. Guys please don't PM or email him to build you one. He said he's retired from making other people tanks. Takes too much time for him. As far as I know this is the last FULL Setup that he made. It's like a collectors item. My over flows are custom too that they don't just suck from the top but from all levels of the tank as well.

nice set up what affect do the lava rocks have?

the Lavarocks serve as a bio logical media for the benifical bacteri to grow on. They are very porous so they are like the poor mans ceramic rings. As we all know ceramic rings can get very pricey.

I got the lava rock idea from Nishant (katfishguy) and Jeff M (Jeff) when I went down to FL for the MFK FL Trip. A big bag of lavarock cost me $5 and not everything was used in the sump. The rest are used on my backyard :D
