hi there all you mfks' this is my first post on this very informational forum, i have a 258 gallon tank, which i setup in mid december 09', the tank is well established now and i have a whole variety of fish in it, they still young however with my biggest being 20cm(8 inches), my first fish in the tank in december were 3 pangasius, they are about 12 - 15 cm now(5-6 inches) i have noticed about 2 days ago that the 2 pangasius have little white spots(clearly ich) on them and their colour faded slightly, however the 3rd is fine with a bold colouration, i have had many tank setups before, on the smaller side, but never had an ich problem, please could i be advised on how to deal with this potential ich outbreak as i have many fish in the tank which show no signs of ich yet

i am planning to move the infected pangasius to a 55 gallon quarintine tank and treat them there in isolation and also raise the temp in my 258gallon so that the ich will be slowly eradicated with the higher wter temperature

pls help:cry::cry::cry:

as long as the fish are healthy to begin with, raising the temp will kill ich parasites, u could also medicate, be sure to remove any carbon in your filtration, fyi meds may turn silicone blue, also healthy fish have no problem overcoming ich, some say ich is always in your water its just a matter of contolling it(by temp?). also some inverts and fish will not tolerate meds, ie clown loach ect.

thanks for the reply jeepsnfish125, i've got 2 blood parrots, a clown knife, bala sharks just to name a few in the tank as well, are these fish any strong when it comes to ich and meds and also is the only ich medication available the stuff that turns water blue, how do i get rid of the blue water if i treat my 258 gal if the need arises,water changes often perhaps?

I have found that a UV sterilizer can help control the spread of ich in the tank. It also makes the water clearer.

sounds like a plan, i have a uv sterilizer thats not connected,silly me:screwy:, the globes burnt, think im going to replace it and setup the uv sterilizer, anything to maintain good water quality i guess, thanks for the heads up.

Salt , heat , UV. Good method just closely monitor the fish. With ich in my experience its better to treat the whole system than to QT fish and have them at different stages of treatment etc etc. Plus the possibility of it still being in the tank etc. Best to kill it all at once in the main tank.
