I tested my tap water and found I have .25 ppm of ammonia, now how much Seachem Safe do I need to use. On their label it says to use 1 teaspoon for every 40 gallons to treat 4ppm of ammonia. How much should I use to treat my 125 gallon? Would I do 3 teaspoons to treat for the gallons or treat according to .25ppm and do some complicated math equation figure out the dosage.

well the math would be as follows, 125/40=(3.125) so to treat 4ppm for your whole volume you'd use 3.125 times the amount. Since your ppm is .25 though .25/4= 0.0625 so you multiply that by the amount for your volume: 0.0625(3.125)= about 0.2.
0.2=1/5 and this gives you the dosing factor, so you'd use 1/5 of a teaspoon for the whole tank if I did that right.

Now throw all of that away because there are tons of people on here that dose for the whole tank when doing partial water changes and have no problems. You dont want to get carried away because too much prime can be a bad thing, but I'd just dose for the amount of water you are putting in (using the ration of 1 tsp for 40g). Unless youre using well water you should have chlorine or chloramines in your water also and prime will break that down for you.
