Not really, especially predators.

I raised my polys their first six months on pellets, and when I moved in with my friend Matt, they wanted to see them eat feeders, and the fish never turned down guppies, minnows, or even African Dwarf Frogs (we all laughed when we bought them and the lady asked "do you need food for the frogs?" lol).

Opposite example, I bought a 10" lapradei that wouldn't take anything but feeders. I gave in at first, then just gave it an ultimatum: eat prepared foods, or starve.

Took about 3-4 days, but you can bet that lap started chowing down on shrimp pellets, freeze-dried tubifex, and cichlid pellets.

So especially for a voracious eater such as an RTC, it's uncommon for them to not accept live food.
