Hello MFKers, i just recently purchased and am in the process of setting up my dream tank. I made a deal with the ol lady and decided to get rid of many tanks for one exceptionally large tank :D the dimensions are 84x24x30....its a 265 standard. Filtration is fluval FX5 x2 and 2 emperor 400 hob filters. my question is within the stock list, and would it be ok to mix the following:

m+f ornatum 8" and 5.5"
m+f festae 6.5" and 7.5"
m+f atromaculatum 5" and 4"
1 lyonsi 4"
1 loisell 6.5"
2 severum 6"

Your top three pairs of cichlids would be my biggest worry. Each of them can be pretty rough during breeding, especially the Festae. I'm sure it can and has been done before. I just wouldn't try it without some back up tanks on hand.

yeah, i agree, im going to have a spare 75 set up that can be divided as needed they currently share a 150g thats divided the festae and atros are together and the ornatum are together, the loiselli severum and lyonsi are in a seperate 125g together with no issues at all. the stock in the 75 is going to go into the 150g, and the 75 will stay set up, empty so ill have

265 ca/sa
150g geos
75 empty

no more tanks ol lady said so. lol

I also have a 265g with two FX5's and one Emperor 400. I have mostly males... Festae, RTM, Freddy, Black Belt, Melanurus, Argetea, Escondido, Carpintis, Midevil, Red Devil, Trimac, Dovii, Bocourti, Red Isletas, Grammode and a Green Terror. I'm over stocked, however it has been that way for 9 months with most of these guys together for the entire time. I have very little aggresion. Now, keeping pairs will be different... but I think you will be fine.

those are nice cichlids you got there, also looks nice with the black sand. just like my 240 with mixed CA/SA's. can't wait till mine grow more. freebyrd, i think you'd be fine mixing them and it's good to have the extra tanks like you mentioned just incase.

I believe Balton tried with festae, ornatum and atro pairs and had to move them due to festae aggression. I would love to see your combo work tho. good luck and keep us updated:) Now that i think of it Mel had festae in with ornatums, and istlanums so who knows i guess it really depends on the personality of the fish you have:)

Thanks for the input. My festae are pretty chill they just kind of do their own thing the only aggression comes from the severums they Buck at each other constantly I have 2 males I guess that's why.

Is there room for anything else stock wise? 265g is quite a large tank

I was going to mention mel as well his are in a 265 I believe... I would get ahold of him and seek his advise, also a really common answer to a "will this work" question is always it depends on the perticular fishes and the personalitys... either way good luck and happy to hear you get your "dream tank".
