I have this 270 (6x3x2) and I have no plans for it.

Throw me ideas.
I'm thinking a species only tank or a biotope with species nobody keeps if possible.

I have a tank I plan to take delivery of end of March next year (12x6x3 or 1,600 gallons). This is a grow out currently.

I'm not a fan of catfish or arowana or datnoid and most cichlids. Hope this helps.
Freshwater, brackish, or salt.

I know people do keep them, but Barramundi are pretty cool and your 12x6x3 would be a nice home for a Barra or 2 to cruise around in.

I dont think you can do anything with it, really just a distraction for you. It would make most sense to box it up and ship it to me so you can prepare for the big tanks arrival.

Or it could make a nice growout for some widebar SD or larger barbs that could eventually go into the big tank.

This is basically what's happening.

I see a bunch of stuff and think it would be cool to focus on that species or biotope. Or if I see a planted tank or reef tank I wonder if adding either X, Y, or Z would make it better or more unique.

Sometimes I see species and wonder if they were isolated would do better than what the general fishkeeper does in community or mixed species tanks.
For example hoplias aimara community tank. Everyone only keeps one or in a tank with top dwellers or other apex fish and I think if I had six or seven in a tank ot might spread aggression. Or if I had bagarius bagarius in a stream biotope it might live longer than 18 months.
Or what if I kept a reef tank but had Epinephelus lanceolatus as the main fish surrounded but smaller chromides that swam and shoal around the LPS or SPS coral. Or a planted aquarium with Salminus brasiliensis instead of the typical discus or tetras.

I'm all over the map so much I talk myself out of ever keeping fish. :screwy:

I think youre on the right track, use it for something experimental. You could do almost any kind of setup with that tank by the looks of it. It would make a good growout for the grouper you mentioned or some of the other large FOWLR species. If you go with fowlr instead of attempting corals it would make the whole setup much more simple...sometimes with tanks like this its good to keep it as simple as possible, easy to break down, consolidate stock and close up later if you need to.

I definitely agree there are plenty of species that need a species only setup to show all of their true colours. In the case of a fowlr setup i think i would go with a big angel or trigger instead of the grouper. That way if plans go different with the big tank the 270 will still be ready to serve.

I think you need to get my lates mariae for that tank.😃
