okay im taking my 84x24x31 and going to have it striped. have the back glass pane cut to be one of the sides and basically have the tank 84x31x24....what do u think ? how do i re-silicone the tank ? and were can i order the black plastic molding/trim for the tank ? or can i make it rimless ????? lmao (j.p) not rimless. Also i would like to use black silicone

A) The search button is your friend. There are a bunch of threads on each one of those topics.

B) If you cut the back pane to be the sides, are you replacing the back pane with new glass? Seems expensive to add a couple inches of depth to the tank.

C) Re-Siliconeing your tank isn't hard, its tedious and time consuming. Use lots of razor blades to remove old silicone, use tape to make clean lines, remove the tape while the silicone is wet. Use your finger or a plastic spoon to create the beads. Make the beads about as wide as the glass is thick.

D) You can order trim from your LFS

E) I like black silicone, its available at big-box home stores. There is debate about weather the anti-mildew/mold 100% silicone is bad for fish. I've not seen any proof of it harming fish, but if you can find without its always better safe than sorry.

F) You could always replace the black plastic rim with eurobracing, it would look almost rimless.

euro braces ? some one please mf explain. i live in NY idk wtf that is lol

yea sounds like ur bout to go through an expensive pain in the butt for no reason..
but euro brace isa top tank rim that has beams that connect the front pane to the back pane to help stop the glass from bowing out in the middle,
i know 125 gals have 2 braces and im guessing a 270 would need 4??
but yea u should use marine silicone its not toxic to fish and is just as good as any,
just make sure theres no air bubbles or little strings hangin off ur silicone cuz theyll cause leaks..
pretty much just do a clean job and you should be fine,
u can always make the beads a lil thicker just to be safe

the only reason i want to do it is for the fact that i dnt need such a tall tank. and i wont b upgrading for a LONG time. and i dnt have a stand yet built and if im gonna do it i wanna do it the way i want it lol. the tank will be a nice wide size for a couple rays and maybe an aro or two. i need surface area more then i need hight...

does $95 an hour sound good for a company coming to my house and re-silicone the tank up and everything for me ??? please help
