I am looking to set up my 29 as a breeding tank to feed my current fish and maybe sell the best fry. I have already tried convicts which worked well for the first spawn until I did a couple water changes and the dad killed the mom... :/ I am looking for something maybe a little more colorful. At first I thought sajicas but some suggested a 29 may not be sufficient.. so at the momment I'm thinking..

Rams
Sajicas
Keyholes
Kribs (though they arnt south american)

Does anyone have a better reccomendation for a 29 or one of the above fish? I did like the convicts but I was a little dissapointed to find out they were hrp hybrids. Would have been nice to receive what I thought I was buying ;)

Laetacara curviceps or L. araguaiae.

Instead of kribs, I would get one of their smaller more mellow relatives for a 29 gallon, ie one of the many P. taeniatus races.

Sailfin mollies are easy fish to breed for feeder fish.
I know they're not cichlids but they are big mollies.

I have thought about mollies but just can't bring myself to do it.. I'm a cichlid guy. It's not only for feeder purpose hence the desire for color. It will be for show and purpose :)

Rainbow cichlids, cryptoheros cutteri , jewel cichlids, cryptoheros chetumalensis , a young pair of fire mouths could work in a 29 for a while.
