Okay so i got this 29g tank with 1 femal Con and a Green Terror and a Bld parrot.

All are very small and very calm. I want another cichlid. Red devil? Jack Dempsey? im realy just guessing but i want an agressive cichlid to be moved with my oscar when around 8 inches..

Any ideas???

Thank you

Oscars aren't aggressive cichlids. So if you add 1 aggressive fish with your oscar in a 55, he may get beat on. Also, if this is a question of permanence, I wouldn't add any more big fish to that tank. The oscar alone could outgrow a 55 (going off your avatar). In this case I would look at smaller fish, if any at all.

edit: are you planning on ALL of the fish in the 29 going in the 55?

going into the 55 yes but my bday is in 3 months and a new 180+ is coming in:)

so they can outgrow the 55 and my oscar is very agressive he has kill 1 silver aro, 1 jar, another oscar, 3 tinfoil barbs and 2 ornate bichirs. :O so i really need to find an agressive fish that wont put up wit his @#!&. the only fish he has lived with was a red devil died of a swim bladder.....So i need another but i want the fish to be compatible with all the fish from the 29 so they can all go into the new tank when it Come:)

wat about my AVATAR??? Thats my dads old aro that died when the tank craked and he did on the ground as well as 2 rays 4 dats and a sexifadis discifadios(cant spell it):P

180- nice :) Ok, so you have an aggressive-*** oscar :D In that case, I would add a couple fish, rather than just one. This way there is no focus on abusing one fish. I would stick with sa/ca cichlids. There are plenty of aggressives there. Trimac, festae, flowerhorn, texas, jag, mota, loiselli, red devil/midas, jack dempsey, hell maybe even a pike.....there are plenty to choose from. That sucks about your dads tank.

Yeah i know:( it was a big ass tank we never really found out how it happened just one day we came home and all the fish were dead:(

So yeh

if your oscar is an exceptionally mean one i wouldn't try to mix it with Trimac, festae, flowerhorn, texas, jag, mota, loiselli, red devil/midas, if it starts a fight with one it can be seriously hurt, so I would say go with a dempsey, severum, or chocolate cichlid

an electric jack might work in a tank with those other guys, but mos def not with a mean oscar.. or mean anything else. They are too small, and too effed up in the head from mad scientist breeders to hold their own in a fight. However, I can promise that a regular JD, especially male, will give that oscar plenty of competition. I would also suggest adding some silver dollars as dither fish... it works WONDERS for aggression... as long as they are big enough.

I agree, the best cichlid tankmates would be something that can defend itself from the oscar, but nothing like trimacs, parachromis, etc. Smaller fish that can hold there own, like salvini or Geo. brasiliensis are good options along with the three mentioned in the quotation
