You could find better deals if you look into T-5 lighting, this will also cost you less when buying replacement lamps.

I did look into them. I have upgraded a few times and want to do it right this time. So I am just gonna go a little better than T5 and to compact flourescent. They also come with a bulb when you buy it. T-5s dont.

I dont think id mind the overhang and PS, I have plants. I want to be able to grow whatever I put in there with this light upgrade.

Ideas?

Go with T5 HO then. Much better output than the CF that I had previously. Don't waste money on CF lighting...

What type plants are you growing? Are you doing Co2. With that much lighting on a 29g for sure you'll be able to grow lots of algae. I would go with the 65watt and make sure you get the 6700k lamp.

On a related note, you have been asking about a wet/dry filter in another thread. Wet/dry are not ideal filters for planted tanks they will gas off all your Co2.

CF lighting is a BIG step down from HO T5. But plan to have co2 injected.

I have the Hagen yeast based system. When I looked at T5s, the out put seemed to be A LOT less than a compact flourescent would be. I could get 48 watts out of two bulbs of T5 and I could get 65 out of one CF bulb. Can you guys show me some to affordable T5 that would be better than the CFs I gave you the link to and tell me why they would be better?

Links would be appreciated.

Thanks about the wet/dry. I had a funny feeling that would be a problem. If I upgrade should I just go to canister?

Yes

It works well for what it is, but really it's only yeast and sugar. No need to waste the money on pre-made packets. Do a search for DIY CO2.

Watts aren't as important as lumen output.
Read this thread:

It will answer a lot of you're questions. Also, take a look at the stickies.

Read the stickies. Watts have no use for light output, they just signify electricity used. Lumens or lux are the two to look at.
