Built one over the weekend. Try to post some pictures soon. Cant use it yet till i get my 180 tank.:nilly: Just gettin ready. I think it turned out really good. Made it out of a milk crate and of course the tank. Hopefully it will be here soon my redtails getting big fast in the 55. Thanks for all the info of here to build it. Will post pictures soon.

glad it turned out nice but i think you need more like a 55 gal sump for a 180, good luck can't wait to see pics.:D
 
Well they say you can use a 20 gallon sump for a 180 but it would be awfully close. But the 29 should work pretty good. The way its figured out by the amount of water on the top of the tanks if the electric should go out. I think it should be ok. But thanks for the feed back though.
 
I believe that the sump should be 1/3 of the tank size(I think thats what Dr. Joe said).

I made my sump using a 55 for my 210,on power off,it fills 3/4 full(maybe a little less).
The 29 should be ok.Just make sure you have syphon brakes to minimize drain back.
 
Got the bio balls today. Nice 5 gallon bucket full. It all fit in there with room to spare. Cant wait till the tank gets here to try it out . Keep you posted.
 
Just wanted to let you know that the sump is working really well. The water only fills 1/2 way when it is turned off. Thanks for all the info on here it really helped out alot!!!!!
