tank has 3 platys and 2 cory cats
Ammonia was getting pretty high about 4.0 ppm . I have done 4 40 to 50 % water changes and the ammonia is down to 1.0 ppm. What is this best way to get it to cycle, there are no nitrites or nitrates yet and the PH is 7.8 Temp is about 77.
I jst added some Tetra Safe Start today. Any thing else I should be doing.
Added the safe start nothing yet. also got a bio pad from the LFS to add to the filter
media. Ph is higher. Still no nitrites or nitrates just ammonia at about 1.0.
very frustrating, at a total lost on were to go from here.

well now that you added the safestart don't do anything for at least a week, don't bother even testing. After 1 week test and see where you are at, if ammonia is high do a 50% change and wait another week, it should be cycled. Your cycle was stalled because your ammonia was so high. That is why daily water changes with prime while cycling are good it keeps the ammonia down which is good for fish and for the bacteria.

To Flowingmotion- guess I don't understand why you sent me the link for fish less cycling since there are already fish in the tank. For future reference maybe , but THX anyway

The whole point of bacteria in a bottle like TSS is to wait and let the bacteria do its thing. Testing during that time is pointless because you can't change the water as per tetra's instructions.

Exactly...
