I have a 29 gallon that I was thinking about setting up again and had a couple of thoughts about a stock list.

1. 1 Salvini + 8 Serpae Tetras + 1 Rubber Lip Pleco
2. Breeding pair of Convicts + 6 Black Skirt Tetras + 1 Rubber lip Pleco
3. Pair of Fire Mouths + 8 Rummy Nose Tetras + 1 Rubber Lip Pleco.

My first question is. Will the cichlids be okay in a standard 29g for life?
Also which list do you like better and why? BTW I'm really only set on the Pleco so feel free to make suggestions about different mixtures with the cichlids and tetras. Thanks.

# 3! I don't have time to explain now... Tomorrow I will! LOL

number 3 is not possible. firemouths will get way too big for a 29g. 1 and 2 are likely possibilities

If you really want the rubber lip pleco, I'd go with dwarf cichlids instead. They aren't as tough or as well armored as bristlenoses, and centrals will just be too rough on them. I love rubberlips and use them in dwarf tanks, but up it to bristlenoses in larger, medium sized ca/sa tanks.

i dont think firemouths get too big 6 inches on a male.

I would say convicts average smaller then the other two species, if I were to go with any of those choices I would choose number three.
A pair of convicts with anything in a 29g is a bad idea. Honestly I would go for a smaller cichlid species. Keyholes are great little fish, as are dwarf flag cichlids. Also look into apistos and rams.

Would it help to go with a single cichlid instead of pairs and up the number of Tetras?
Also I'll be skipping on the Rubber Lip Pleco. So here would be the updated lists.

1. Salvini+12 Serpae Tetras
2. Convict+ 10 Black Skirt Tetras
3. Firemouth+12 Rummy Nose Tetras

The tank would also have drift wood and Amazon sword. any recommendations on other plants would also be helpful thanks.

Is it that nobody likes the Salvini in a 29g? Also I'm open to most ideas that involve a CA/SA cichlid being the centerpiece fish. Suggestions? BTW most dwarfs will have to be ordered, and I'm trying to avoid that right now.
