29gal stocking please help

I have a 29 gallon tank set up with just a few tropical fish in it. It is cycled but i am wating to stock it because i am moving to an appartment in about a week or two i would like to up grade to a 55gal but do not have the room.
When it comes to stocking I only want two fish that get a decent size(no rams and such) and some smaller schooling fish like tiger barbs or tetras to act as targets and deithers. I have experiance with convicts and like them so I am going to get one of those, for my second fish i would like a diffrent fish for some diversity plus i do not want breeding.
I was thinking 1 convict and 1 firemouth do you think this would work, if not any other suggestions on what to keep with a con in that size tank, will it make a diffrence if i get 2males, or 2females. thanks....

if u r sure u r getin that 55 gallon then dont get only 2 fish especially without dithers then the dominant one will have no body esle to bully. for dithers i would get congo tetras. for cichlids i would say 2 female cons , a pictus catish. most likely if u dont get peaceful cichs or a breeding pair u will only end up with one fish.

so if u want more fish just go for female cons with some
firemouths, and a pictus catfish they are cool. dont get any jewels they are superaggressive especially the 5 spot general it is the most aggresive cichlid pound for pound out there

I dont think i can get a 55 but i am not sure. so if i have to keep my 29 you think i can get 1 femal con, and 1 firemouth with deithers. I would pick both of one sex cause i think they might crossbreed and i dont want fry.

i dont know y ur only interested in 2 fish but anyways it might work if there are enough dithers . maybe try 2 female cons and 2 female firemouths and if u dont get the 55 or if there are conflicts see if the store will take em back.

a pair of cons!

they get to an ok size if you feed them a varied diet they can get bigger than usual

sometimes cons work in community tanks but most of the time they dont especially if they are breeding

ya i dont want to breed i just dont want to hassle with fry, I was thinking a con and firemouth, or maby 2 cons the same sex but diffrent colors, I will probally try the con+fire and if it does not work bring back the fire and replace it with a diffrent color con. I am gona try to get them as young as I can but still be able to sex them to help with aggresion .i will also add tiger barbs or tetras (around 4) to also help with aggresion and to fill up space. my favorite fake meat
