I wanted to document my build, multiple reptiles can be housed in a enclosure such as this, it is tropical and handles humidity from 30-90% and temps 60-80 degrees.

First I picked up a 29tall for 29$

Picked up one large center piece plant and one medium climbing/shade plant, for my setup 2 crested geckos will be inhabiting this tank so I picked plants that they could hide and climb in

Basic layout of the tank
IMAG1656_zps48ff6b53.jpg

Now for substrate since I'm using only live plants I went with a bottom layer of river rock for proper drainage
IMAG1657_zps1ee8d549.jpg

Second layer is spahgnum organic peat moss, this is great for growing healthy plants and is NON toxic to herps
IMAG1659_zpsa6a4842f.jpg

With everything solidly planted, next was to make a DIY pvc den for breeding where I have a window to see

The pvc and the rest of the moss will be covered by Eco earth because cresties are clumsy and can accidentally injest their substrate whilst hunting, when finished the pvc will act as a den and a nice hill for more climbing space

Baked the bamboo at 375 for 15min, cut it to appropriate lengths and added some climbing structures, everything is done besides the of Eco earth which will give it a natural feel

Just need to add the feeding dishes, Eco earth, humid/temp gauge and a nice female to make babies with my male :) I figure 2 dens is fine with plenty of climbing structures!

Completed pics will come shortly after work today! Thanks, any commets or concerns are appreciated!!!

Why is your drainage layer so shallow? On most of my vivs my drainage layer is 1.5-2". Seems to me that there is the potential for the substrate to remain constantly wet with that sort of mix, depending on watering. Something the dracaena and other plant are not likely to enjoy.

When I do the substrate layer in my vivs I usually do a drainage layer 1.5-2", then weed barrier, then my substrate over top. The weed barrier prevents the substrate mixing into the drainage layer.

My 10gal viv was almost the same, I used pretty large rock in it, prlly .1-1.5" never considered the weed barrier that is interesting, as long as humidity spikes at 90% at night then goes back down to 40-50% during day it should be fine. The plants don't require that much water plus the peat helps. I can see a side view of my drainage layer and its just rock.

Thx for the tips tho, just picked up all kinds of goodies I'm going to be adding on. Update tonight when he meets his new palace!

It's not hard, if you can setup an aquarium this isn't much different, drainage layer, them growing sub then its just like planting! The plants are the biggest project, after that all the little details will fall into place, just have a strong enough light to grow plants!!!! And make sure you do a few days research on what reptile you want, tropicals need humidity, desert need little to zip, that way you can plan out.

I sketched my layout weeks before I started:

You'll love it, its an all enclosed Eco system and no matter what herp you choose he or she will love it!!!!!!!

It's like a mini bio dome!
