Thinking of setting up a small aquarium with a pair of dwarf cichlids.

What is a species that is typically hardy and will tolerate, otos, tetras or cories?

keyholes are mellow and very sturdy

Mikrogeophagus aren't really noted for their "hardiness", so that's not where I would look first ... maybe one of the laetacara species, like l. curviceps ...

depending on how small is "small", you could also considser the Rainbow cichlid, h. multispinosa ... not exactly a dwarf, but is small, hardy and peaceful ...

apistos/rams!!

Seeing as you're posting in the CA/SA section i assume you don't want shell dwellers, so i'd agree with the majority here saying apistos and rams...
