2nd Filter

im thinking of adding a 1500lph to my 6 foot .
I all ready have a fx5 on there and thinking of adding it.
should I set it up as a normal filter or should I just fill it with bio balls or what ?
all filter pads
any ideas ?

I like to use coarse sponge in my filters. Gives you both mechanical and biological filtration. Also the sponge is easy to clean.

Wyat size 6'? I have a 125 with a fx5 and ac110. The fx5 is stock foam with and 3 trays biomax, ac110 is stock sponge purigen and a 10micron sheet. This works really well for me since it offers polishing and I can clean the ac110 weekly during wc

depends. are you happy with the particulate filtration of your current setup? if so, then fill the new filter with bio, if not go with more fine pads. I wouldn't use bioballs though. there are better choices for submerged media. sintered glass, open cell reticulated foam(poret), or porous ceramic would be my medias of choice.
