Hey all

I am going to be firing up two 2nd hand eheim pro II filters soon, around two years old. Not sure of the model numbers - only that they are BIG! Any tips on things I should check before I get going?? Never had Eheim before - Im a fluval man normally.....!!!!

Howdy,

At two years old, they are still like new. My oldest Eheim has been in continueous operation for 18 years ... still going!

Nothing to worry about. If anything, I'd take the impeller unit apart just to make sure it's clean and the axle is in good shape. It's ceramic. It should be.

Have fun with your filters and welcome to Camp Eheim

Eheim's are great filters, and won't quit on you. As Harley said, check the impeller assembly, and if all looks good, fire it up.

Do you really think I'll leave Fluval for the dark side......? ;)

Eheims would have to be good for that.... i have loved my Fluvals.....!!

Just need to watch for leakage from the main gasket/seal. If it's been used and then subsequently left lying around for a while it could have gone hard or degraded. Sometimes a leak may only show up when the filter is full but the pump is off (the pressure inside is increased).
Happened to a secondhand one I bought.
