Well........... I'm disappointed and pissed. My little hybrid was doing OK at best. He was eating decent and growing very slowly but he had no............. no......... NOTHING. He was actually a DUD. I had him quarantined for about 4-5 weeks to make sure he was ok and I added him to my main tanks side tank which is a 75 gallon. The water quality is practically perfect and he should have been fine. I acclimated him slowly even though the PH and temp were exactly the same. He was a little tough to catch in the Q tank but other than that the move went fine...........

This morning he's dead

His mouth was wide open and he looks like he died just sitting there ????

WTF !!!!!!!!!

I dont think I'll try another, They look too much like marble cats anyway to justify the trouble.

I dont know If I'm mad or upset :screwy:

Ehh, I think you just have to get a strong individual. Mine seemed unhealthy in the beggining, but now is growing leaps and bounds over my other fish. He's outgrowing my smallest tsn 2 to 1. He's went from 4" to a current 8" since I got him about 2 1/2 months ago. He grew very little at all when I first got him. For like the first month he was just growing back his barbells and his fins, but now he is so gorgeous I couldn't part with him. Oh well if you do decide to get another best of luck to you.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your loss. You did everything you could do (quarantine, water parameters, acclimating) I agree with necro on this one- You could have had a weak specimen

Sorry to hear about your problems but mine is doing great. They don't look like a marbled cat for very long... Stress seems to be a big thing with these guys and they don't do well if they don't have a place they can hide. We have two LFS's that stock them from time to time.
The one who stocks lightly and provides hiding places has close to a 100% sucess rate while the other who stuffs a lot of babies in a basicly bare tank losses several a day.

Mine was a little ruff when I got him and then burned himself and I thought I was going to lose him but hes doing great growing like a weed!!

Sorry to hear man. Thing is about hybrids is that sometimes the genetic code matches up to become superior individual (hybrid vigor) and other times they make a week sickly one. When I bought my rtc x tsn there where only 2 and the other was much smaller and sickly and almost dieing....
just my .02

Thanks for the comments guys........

That makes total sense to me. I've seen more sickly looking hybrids than healthy ones lately. I hate to give up, so maybe I'll try again. Out of all my hybrids I currently have/had NONE grow/grew quicker than average.

Thanks........

My Marble Redtail Catfish seems fine...he has a full belly right now because he pigged out on my Lima's dinner last night....he is breathing a little heavy but i think he is trying to trick me into putting more food in the tank at some times...I checked all my levels their fine...so he should be good...all my other fish look great....sorry to hear about your loss...it cost me $77 for my little "Puddgin" of a fish so i know that you probally did everything in your power not to loose yours....

It might just be breathing heavy because it's trying all it can do to digest it's food. Kinda like after you eat way to much on thanksgiving and you just want everyone to leave you alone so you can go sleep some where haha:grinno:

Your RIGHT!...I walked in my basement this morning and I see him swimming around like nothing happened....when I reached over to turn one of the lights on...he was begging for food....see this is how he got the nickname "Puddgin"....and sadly im notorious for growing fish large and healthy...sooo he may be around for a looong time for me....sorry again to hear about your loss..."Puddgins" fins seem kind of weak around the edges but are fully healed since the day I got him...the main thing I did notice is that they can go from crazy extremes...from being peacful and fearlessly eating anything it thinks is food...to being scared....banging his head into any and everything in the tank...(Mine hasnt done this at all...but I have seen it with redtails alot)
