2x4 or 4x4

I will be going to buy the wood for the stand. I was going to use 4x4 to feel safer, but I see alot of people using 2x4. 2x4 would be cheaper, I have been looking at many diy stands, but I just want to be safe without being wastful.

4x4 is absolute overkill, even 2x4s is overkill. most stands on here (including mine lol) could probably support a full size truck!

i would say 4x4 if u want a really simple design....but i think for 2x4 u would needa very sturdy more complex design...i have one made from 4x4 holding a 55

What size tank are we talking about here? I'd use 4x4 for like 6' tanks and that would only be for outter support on the corners.

2x4 is overkill... 4x4 would be a waste of money.

Theres no reason to make it 6 times stronger than a normal pre-made aquarium stand. 2x4s will be fine.

Sorry this will be a 265G or a 300G depending on who I buy it from. What I though about was a cross design. 4x4's for the legs and 2x4's for the top, bottom, and for the center supports.

Thanks again every one, if any one has pictures of a DIY stand for a 200+ gallon tank I'd love to see them.

You can use whatever you feel safe. I think the type of joints used in the construction are more important.
