Hey all anyone have experiance with the 3 beacon pleco (Leporacanthicas species), growth rate max. size temperment. I have a large L-114 leapord cactus and wanted to know how the 3 beacon compares to them. Thanks in advance

Those are the 2 types of plecos I keep seperated. My L091s are about 8 inches a piece and my L114s are 6 inches and when I had them together the would fight. They didn't get along for me at least? They were real bad when it came to feeding time.

I have a 56 column (used to be 29 gallon) tank with a dragon fin-L91, and 4 L204s flash; when these fish were in the 29 g, I also had an L7 Vampire, which got moved to the 75g with 2 L114 leopard cactus. As the L91 is the largest plec in the tank, there are no problems and the other fish (L204) keep a respectable distance (same when the L007 was in there). The L91 is about 5.5"-6" SL, and it maybe grew about 0.5" in the year I've had it. I was fortunate to find a great piece of driftwood that is cave-like that is near the front of the tank; the L91 has claimed the driftwood so I can usually see it or a good part of it. As the L91 and the L114s are the most expensive plecs I have, I have not been tempted to mix them.

(Also, I've switched from NLS pellets to hikari/extreme scraper wafers as the diamond and congo tetras in the 75 get the pellets before the L114s)

they sound like slow growers like the pseudas. Yeah I wouldnlt mix them since they seem like that can't play nice together. Was thinking of buying an adult and keep it with a red tapajos colony in an 85 with maybe a bushy nose plec

Hey Linus cello How are your 114's doing? What size are they and how many do you have left?

I have 2 out of the 4 left. Something went through the quarrantine tank and after the move and lost 2 of them. The largest one is 5-5.5" SL, the other is 3.5-4" SL. They do hide. Fortunately, the largest one hides in a ceramic log that is near the front of the tank so I can see it. The L7 seems to have adapted well with them; maybe that will change when they all get bigger (along with all the planting).

Planting? My L114 is 12 inches and in an 85 now and all I can keep is two large peices of bogwood as at night he moves and tears everything apart. Sponge filters? Forget them he will tear the sponge up also he slams gravel all over the tank and hates the heater also.LOL
