Hey everyone. I have a three day weekend coming up and I have some major changes I would like to do to my tank. First off, I want to paint the back of my tank black. Can anyone tell me about this process? What paint to use, how to apply it cleanly, and how many coats? Also, I need to change my sand. I have this stupid Caribsea white sand that is way too fine. It goes up in clouds at the slightest stroke of a tail. What sort of sand would be good? I like lighter looking sand. I've heard pool filter sand is good. Any oppinions?

Pool filter sand is really good. For painting the back, flat spray paint is the easiest. Very VERY light coats, just to get little spots of paint dotting the back. This process will get the best adhesion, but can take 30-40 coats to completely cover the back. Allow the paint to dry between each coat.

I too use pool filter sand but I did not rinse it first. I makes a mess everytime I change the water so definatley rinse it. It looks great though. For the back, I painted my 150gal with black latex paint. My tank sits about 7 inches from the wall so I got a long roller stick an used a small Foam rollar. Foam roller is the key. It took 3 cotes and only about 30 min to do. Highly reccomend

x2 on the foam roller. I have painted a few tanks this way, works great.

Its a glass tank. How do I make sure the Paint stays neat? I don't want it dripping everywhere or getting on the sides of the tank. The tank will be empty while I paint it. Do I need to do anything in preperation or can I just start rolling on paint?

... You know what house painters do to prevent paint from getting on the floor or any wooden areas?

I'm going to have to delay the painting process, which is OK because it gives me more time to plan. I want to make sure everything goes right. I just want to make sure which paint is best. I'm thinking latex, but I heard that that comes off easily. From your experience, which kind of paint works best?
