So. House went 3 days with no power, and guess what? Not one loss!

Main tank: 2 Oscars, 11 Danios, about 45 3/4" Convicts, and 1 Leopard Pleco. Filtration, 1 FX5, 1 sump.

What I did to prevent losses, went through 2 bottles of prime doing 75% water changes 1 daily. Went through 1 bottle of stability as well. Un potted 4 house plants rinsed dirt and shoved their roots in the tank.

Also went down the road and charged up my 20G compressor, put a filter on it and used it to power 3 established sponge filters from my cray tank.

Second tank: 20L Marmokreb Tank, About 50 1/4" crays. 1 2" cray, and 1 3"+ cray. I did nothing with this tank except with hold feeding. Did a 30% water change on day 3.

Third tank: 29g Bowfront. No losses. Only had 2 1/2" Convicts in it. Filter is a Fluval 404. After 3 days water was still fine. Even after filter kicked back on.

Only issue I having is with the main tank, I thought I had time to get the FX5 disconnected before power went on, but I didn't. So it dumped it's rotten contents into the tank. I've done a 75% water change but the Nitrates are still 40-50 PPM. Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0. I'm thinking 75% waterchanges for the next 3 days. And a thorough gravel vac.

Anyone else have ideas?

Mike

umm move somewhere where the power isnt out for 3 days at a time ahhaah jk but seriously 3 days. I think the longest in my life was a few hours

Sounds like you have things well under control. Just keep monitoring your parameters and keep doing appropriate water changes. How did you keep the water temperature from dropping drastically? Did you use any battery-operated air pumps?

Power outages can be really problematic. We have frequent outages in our area. We've had a large generator on hand all winter, sitting in a covered utility trailer. Just this week, my husband looked at it and thought about taking it back to town to his storage area. We still are running our wood stove 24/7, so it's cold enough around here, that our fish would be in jeopardy during a long power outage. The fish tank we will be setting up will be on a generator that kicks on when the power goes out. I don't like the worry associated with fish keeping and power outages.

Good to hear glad there were no losses. I used to have battery powered air pumps for all of my tanks for this very reason. It the power is going to be out a while I usually float the media in the tank to try to keep the bb alive
