I was thinking in the next year or so that I would start up a mini reef aquarium.

This is the tank:

I was thinking of getting a Green Clown Goby and 2 sexy anenome shrimp

Some other inverts I would add would be 2 Nerite Snails (To Clean up Algae), 1 Cherry Shrimp (To Control Aiptasia), Reef Anenome, and Dwarf Feather Duster

5 Pounds of Live Rock and Sand

Corals: Yellow Polyp, Green Scroll Coral, and a Mushroom of some sort

What do you guys think of this setup? What to change? What to add?

I think the small tanks are neat but thats really small. I've seen it done before but its going to be hard to keep your water parameters constant. If thats no problem for you then I'd like to see this little reef. Green clown gobies are cute little guys. If it were me I'd go for a f/w with red crystal shrimp, some moss and maybe a small fish, I'd need a different light though. I can't really trust myself to keep up with the demands of a small reef.

I was actually thinking about doing a small freshwater planted tank with some shrimp in it, but then I thought about that I've already done freshwater why not move onto saltwater

Was looking to do the same or buy a 12 gallon nano cube so I am waiting for what others have to say! BUMP!

Thats exactly what I was thinking to... This is just a plan in the next year or so... so I might move onto something bigger like a 6 gallon, 10 gallon, or 12 gallon aquarium.

The problem is affording it. Live Rock isn't cheap.

We are both in the same boat. But that one is 85 bucks.. It isn't as nice as the jbj.. If I were I would buy this one for like 35 dollars more..

but if you wanted small, i would probably say picotope cuz those are my choices haha

Anything is still possible so I just need to search around and see how much money is needed for everything. Does anyone know of a heater for these aquariums

I'm into freshwater, but from what I've heard from other hobbyists is that its easier to start a 55 gal saltwater tank rather than a 10 gal

3 gal is small esp. for a salwater setup, I wouldn't do it personally

I would seriously reccomend that your first salt tank is at least 29 gallons. Any smaller that that is just too hard for a beginner to keep the water parameters in check. A Pico can be done, but it usually expert saltwater aquarists that have any real luck. When it comes to saltwater even most experts agree that the bigger the tank the better!
