Sure you could do it, but just keep in mind that the smaller the tank, the more limited your stocking choices are, space, as well as the harder it is to keep parameters constant and at good levels, but yet, it can be done.
Well there are several places which specifically deal with aquacultured nano-corals. This is where you would want to start. No special LR, just smaller pieces than you would typically use. If you intended on building a reef, you need to consider it two ways before you can decide on stock:
1. Choose the fish you want, and then pick corals which are compatable.
-OR-
2. Choose the corals you really desire, and then pick fish accordingly.
Either way, just like any other tank, you need to have a basic plan and idea of what you are going for.
pretty much any one small fish (preferably just one or two inverts) with your coral.
as water baby said pick your preferance and find compatale matches.
I would do either:
1 pair neon gobies, or
3-4 sexy shrimp, or
1 midas, sailfin, or bicolor blenny, or
1 perc clown
1-2 clown gobies
or just do an invert tank with different kinds of hermits and snails
