Hello everyone,

I spotted a 3-in Dovii at LFS, according to the owner, a customer decided not to keep after hearing all the growing pain stories. The cost is $10 for me and I am tempted but would like consult the experts here first since I am a newbie to monster fish. Thanks in advance.

Tank = 120g (48”x24”x24”)
Tank mate = none
Experiences = knows what not to do & always question when in doubt

Questions
1. How long before it outgrows the above tank?
2. Someone also offer me a 5-in fahaka or 7-in ornate bichir? Can both be kept in the same tank? Which will be a better if chose?
3. What are other alternatives? Please no common cichlids such as Jack Dempsey, Oscar or red devil, etc.
4. Please move to proper forum if incorrectly placed.

With a 120 your very tight on space. You can keep a dovii but not for life. Especially in a tank of 120 gallons the dovii would need to have a one fish tank. a fahaka puffer needs a larger tank and wouldn't do fine with the dovii at all. Other cichlids would be limited I mean....sorry but you wouldnt be able to keep dovii, Umbee, festae or anything too large ... Your choices are limited especially in a smaller tank such as a 120
