They are about 1" and for now they have my 55g all to themselves. i need to feed these guys. What do i feed them what do i do with the tank. i know its a cold water fish so is room temp water good for them? how fast do they grow? What did i get myself into?

they need a HUGE pond. they get about 5ft+ depending what species you have. (5ft is for the smaller species) i'd start on bloodworms, then gohst/brine shrimp and crawfish when bigger or feed sturgeon food they have made for sturgeon. and you can feed HIGH quality koi food as they are sort of like koi and need carbs. and this is a cold species so room temp is good. they are slow glowers but not when juvi's. id say they will last 4months in the tank

perfect! i have a 3,400 pond in my back yard. but im still getting t ready. i oringinally made it for my redtail but when these guys get big enough they can share. Thanks for answering my questions

no problem. what temp are you keeping that pond at if it will be shared with a tropical and cold water fish? am not saying it cant be done, its just that if u go to cold the rtc wont eat if you go to hot the sturgeon can die

ive been trying to bring him down off of warm water for 2 months now. he is at 72 right now. i wanna get him to 68. if i can do that than i think i can pull if all off. and i have a heater for the pond that can handle that.

I have 2 baby sturgeons now, and I feed them micro pellet community NLS. They eat it up like little pigs.

I keep them at room temp, and they are a-ok.

Don't worry, they are slow growers.

Those temperatures are not going to work long-term for the RTC; you can't simply acclimate a fish that needs tropical temperatures to much colder temperatures. They really should be kept at 75°F at minimum...

You're going to have to choose between the two types of fish because neither temperature range is healthy for one or the other.

The rate of sturgeons growth, and the rate of an RTC are completely different as well. Your RTC will grow a ft before those sturgeons do.

Here are growth rates:

In a pond situation rough growth rates should be approximately:
  • Siberian: 90cm (3ft) in 5-6 years
  • Diamond: 90cm (3ft) in 4-5 years
  • Albino Sterlet: 60cm (2ft) in 5-10 years
  • Sterlet: 90cm (3 ft) in 8-10 years
This is a great site for info!
