I have 3 Frontosa 2", 3", 4". I'm growing them out for my 240gal. They are currently in my 52gal corner tank. In a perfect world I would have one male and two females, but I don't think you can tell by looking at them at this size.

I was wondering what behavior to look for to help distinguish the sex? They were all purchased at separate times from separate stock. The largest is so far the dominant one.. digs all the time. So far the pecking order seems to be determined by size.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I have 6 of them that I have been growing out from fry. You can not tell the sex at that size. I have been watching mine grow and each one seems to have their own personality. Good luck. I know this was no help.

It will be a long time before you have to worry about sexing..they grow slowly... mine are just starting now to get somewhat aggressive..with polks at each other and they range from 4-8 inches.. it took two years for them to grow and they still have alot more to grow.. get a few more so you have a colony and later when you know what you have let the dominant male stay and sell the other males or separate them.. enjoy them as a colony and keep them healthy..the value goes up with age and you can trade your extra males for a couple of older females..but i would not worry about it at this age.
