For the last two days they started acting strange and not eating. I woke up today and two of them were breathing heavy swimming on their sides and upside down. I don't understand why it only got the ornatus. I have a big oscar and 7 small vieja and everyone else seems to be ok and eating and breathing and looking normal, beside the three ornatum.

Symptoms: The fish will become very listless and lethargic, often will hang at the surface, trying to breath there, although on occasion, the fish will rest on the bottom of the tank. Reluctance to feed is very typical and the fish will become anorexic. Respiration is often rapid, as the fish fights to overcome the damage done by the infection to its gills. Also there belly's all turned an orange and there skin has some areas that look like some scales have died.

Someone please chim in.. i have the 7 vieja and my big oscar in there and i really dont want anyone else to die. I just did a large water change btw.

my water params are good i think its low oxygen i recently removed a power head at the aiming at the surface. But would low oxygen kill them that slowly and can it be that ornatum are more sensitive to low oxygen then a big oscar?

I am not familiar with ornatus, but my assumption would be they are more sensitve to water quality issues than your other fish. According to a fish profile site i just looked up, they like higher PH levels so maybe that was the issue or compounded the issue.

aw man i think your fish got bloat or some kind of internal problem like swim bladder. This is a big emergency. You need to make sure water is clean and healthy to begin, then water temp should be in the mid 80s. Give good aeriation, and I don't know what med to cure bloat or SwimBadder. My best guess around the internal parasite area?. Good luck and you better act asap. they are suffering bad.

research on how to cure online. Swim Bladder

My water params are good I think right? nitrate=10 amonia=0 ph=8.0... Its low oxygen and the gas that comes along with that during water changes. I recently removed a power head that was aiming at the surface (about a week ago). But would low oxygen kill them that slowly like this: 1st day or 2 no eating and stating close to surface, then 4th or 5th day color fading and much lighter in certain areas then 6th or 7th day torpedoing until dead. And can it be that ornatum are more sensitive to low oxygen then a big oscar?

I was told by two people that it was low oxygen and gas. If anyone agrees how would you fix the problem to ensure it doesn't happen again. I started by putting the power head back.
