Hey all. I found a super cute really orange and white baby oscars I am dying for. I begged my husband for DAYS. Today he said yes. He also said "may as well get him a mate") But I have Pita already, who is 8 inches. So I thought I would get them for my 4 foots until they are a little less bite sized and qt-ed. Any thoughts? by the time they get in there will be like 7 slate caves and loads of plants, and they will be the only three fish. (though at the mo Pita is sharing with a Bala that he LOVES. I do have 2 more bala's in qt and a second big tank planned for them that will be ready by then, but my expert says they would still be fine, I think it would be to much)

So, there is a REALLY solid orange one with a white head, an orange blotchy white one, and a white one with little orange veins. I was thinking the mostly orange one and the mostly white one. But the really orange one is the one I am DYING for. the white and orange just flips my switch lol.

if all else fails, how about 2 oscars and the balas?

the tank is 78x24x24 inch, filtered by 2 fluval FX5s.

Thanks all!

I think in terms of bioload it would be more than fine to put all 3 O's in that tank with a school of Balas. Only thing I'd worry about is I've read that trios of O's can lead to more problems than say only 2, as you sometimes end up with 2 of them singling out and beating up/stressing the 3rd one. If you're going to have a 2nd tank handy I'd go ahead and get all 3, if one is getting beaten up you can always swap it into the other tank.

I have 3 Oscars in a 6' round 300 gal... I think the odd male would get killed had they grown up in a 6.5 x 2 x 2...

Balas would out grow that tank......

I was under the impression that balas only grew to 12-13 inches...
