Just purchased a RTC about 3-4". I got him cheap due to the fact that he had flared gills. He is not eating, just sits on the bottom and breathing heavy through his gills. The fish cannot even sit flush to the bottom because the gills plates are so extended. What is this caused by, and how do I cure it. I have him with 17 baby peacock bass in a 125. Water params are PH 7.2, nitrates 80 ppm, nitrites almost 0 ppm, KH 80 ppm GH 100 ppm. I raised the PH up slow to bring out more colors in the peacock bass. I do a 30-40% water change weekly with R/O water and add the required electrolytes etc., water temp 83 degrees.
