Is it possible to keep a 2' amphiuma with larger species of fish if the salamander was tong fed to ensure it got enough food or would it take chunks out of fish even if they were much to large to eat?

You might be ok if the amphiuma is always well fed. I would only put in fish that you will not be too upset if you find them half eaten one day.

I think that you would be destined to one day find an unusually fat amphiuma and a few half-eaten fish..

As someone who's tried this twice, it's a bad idea. Mine got along with larger "oddball" fish no problem. However, they like a much lower temp than tropical fish. If kept at trop temps, they constantly search for a way out. Amphiumas are very strong too, I can't believe how big a rock my 3 footer can move. The lid will have to be not just sealed, but weighted or clipped down.
