I have a cycled, 30 Gal tank, medium to heavy planted, soon to add drift wood, with gravel and I'm wanting a predator fish to go in it. I have ways to buy and sell so I can do a fish that fully grown needs a bigger tank but I would prefer one I could keep. I would like a fish that eats other fish. Right now I only have guppies, loaches and a few algae eaters in it. I dont mind if they are eaten as I have lost interest in the tank. Any suggestions?

They are cool, will look into them. But are there any larger fish I could do? I looked into a dwarf snake head and it said their tank size can be 30 gal, is it true?

What are the dimensions of this 30g? If it's like a 40g breeder 36'x18", but just shorter in height, you can do a red-fin wolf fish (Erythinus erythinus) or a purple wolffish (Erythinus sp.) in this planted tank. Not very active.

You need to check what's legal in your state as well. Each state has different requirements.

You could put in a Ery wolffish for the time being and rehome once it gets too large. They are seasonal though. A senegal bichir would work for 2-3 years until they get close to 9", then you would have to start looking to rehome.

Exodons would be the best bet for an active predator tank.

Wolf fish would be ideal but I still have to look into it. Then Exodons would be totally cool as well. Thank you!

not many big fish that can live in a 30 for too long. Ery ery is a good choice and about as big as you'd want to keep in a 30. dwarf crenicichla are cool, though not very large. My personal choice would be to grow out a jumbo male amatitlania. Like the "cabuya convicts" jeff rapps has- they look like mini midas, get to 6"ish, would make a good wet pet in a 30 imo.

A different yet cool way to go Blue Lobster. I have been thinking of turning my 46bowfront into a tank for them.

I have a planted 30gal at home with a bunch of exodons and one bristle nose pleco. Its my absolute favorite tank of all time. Most exciting fish ive ever kept. Feeding time is feeding frenzy. Wether its live or frozen or flakes or pelllets these things are nutso.
