i have a 30 gal aquarium and weve been stocking it w/ some small community fish over the past few weeks and i noticed tonight some of the fish have a minor case of ick. ive never used salt to cure ick so id like some advice. i know youre supposed to use it in combo w/ heat. but what amounts and is it safe for all fish? i have two tiger barbs, two gourami, a pleco, tiger botia, and three sailfin mollies. are they all safe???

hi, I just had the same thing with my 55 gal about 8 days ago. I have an juvenile arowana, a couple of catfish, leopard ctenopomas and a 6 inch clown knife in it. Take a look at this post by Guppy http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20681.
It works like a charm. :headbang2 It takes a little more time that the ick cure meds you can buy at the local fish shop. But from what I understand it's much more gentle on the fish. All my fish are doing fine now. I turned up the temp to 85 degress, and added salt to .2 From guppys advice you should do this for two weeks.

awsome thanks alot! i started the treatment last night but i was only using the recommended 1 tablespoon per 5 gal. of water on the carton. when i get off of work ill have to go home and try it! thanks again!

i have a few other questions about treatment. i have some kind of huge albino snail in my tank...will the salt treatment hurt him? and also does it hurt plants? any info would be great! thanks! -jordan
