Akron Oh
Ok so i have been reading on here about every ones wet dry filters, but i havent seen how large of a tank u guys have them in. and what gal per hr they turn over. what would b the max for a pump size for a 30 gal tank. It will b going into a 90 gal tank for now. I would like to use a 1200gph pump, but would that b over kill in the 30 gal wet dry?

its pretty hi from what I understand but depends on the fish you keep also. if they like current then it could be ok. 1200GPH is 13 turnovers an hour but figure in head loss and friction loss and likely about 10/hr if your fish like current it would be ok imo but if not they will get stressed on you.

well it is rated 1100gph at 4ft, i was thinking of making a 4 jet system at bottom of tank so 1100/ 4 = 275 gph, that is not counting the loss of flow from the elbow in the pipes.

this is on my 90.its a 15 gal and i am using a mag drive 1800 gph and its not to much current. dont forget head height isnt the only thing that sucks current up, every 90 degree elbow in your return line drasticly reduces flow (notice i use 2x 45's instead of a 90)

I have a 29g tank filtering my 90g bow front, and I'm using a quiet one 4000. Tons of circulation is not required when using a wet/dry. I aim for 3-5x per hour.
