is $54.99 a good price for a 30 gallon 36.5x12.5x16.5 aquarium, just tank no extras? my closest lfs is selling it for that and im' skeptical to believe thats a good price. thanks. also i do'nt have access to any credit cards atm so my aternatives to online shopping are quite limited. :(

I have seen anywhere from $1-$2 per gallon for tanks. more towards $2 per gallon for a brand new tank.

Hmm, well that depends on the tank its self. However you did say no extra's, so well........ I wouldn't do it. I mean if you are interested in it for a starter tank/Q. tank/breeder etc. I would suggest just going to your local pet store ( Like petco, petsmart, etc.) and picking up one of their "starter kits" which usually include the tank, hood w/ lights, bio-filters, and sometimes even sample size products like de-chlor., or flakes. Either way, IMO I think you are better off resisting the urge to purchase that from your LFS. Reason I say this, is because of a few simple factors you need to cover before you should even consider buying it.........

1. Have you checked the tank out fully - all angles, had them fill it with water if it was empty to ensure no leaks??

2. Why are they selling it - for example, are they over run with tanks and trying to downsize, was it a part of their usual retail shipment, did a customer sell it to them, and they are re-selling it???

3. this ties in with the other 2 - - Is the tank new or used. If it is a new tank that they have several of in stock (as most larger FS do for the retail aspect), then the structure of the tank is probably fine - though I still feel that you would be getting ripped off by paying 50-60 bucks on a 30 gallon tank with nothing else included! If it is a used tank - be extra cautious. There are way way too many things that could go wrong in this case - leaks, rust, corroded silicone, possible bacteria/fungi lingering, and/or toxic residues from chemicals used in the past or by medicinal treatments administered into the tank by the previous owners. There is no way to know what took place in/on/around a used tank which is why I stear clear of them. Yes there are ways to clean and combat most of these problems, but the possible loss, and frustration sure to be linked with it is my opinion not worth the risk. All in all, if a 30 is what you are looking for, check out other websites and stores that offer "kits" so that you know you are getting everything you need for start-up, and that your are starting with a solid and mostly sterile tank.

Frankly I feel thats too much for just the glass... thats a retail price.. is this supposed to be on special?

Not even a hood/light?

That is too much, I got one for 34.99 with top and flourescant light, look around a bit more, if its not worth your time/gas money to look around then just go for it,
