I have an 8' long x 2' wide x 30"tall ~300 gal tank on the way, & wanted to float an idea by those more knowledgeable than myself. Back in the day I really enjoyed my Dovii & want to get another one. What are your thoughts on If I raise 1 single male dovii, along with several Vieja cichlids together from Fry in this 300 gal.

Factors that help minimize agression:
1. Single male Dovii will not be nearly as agressive as a pair
2. several Viejas (synsp) in there to "spread the aggression"
3. Raised from fry, with Dovii being the smallest one to start
4. Since the Vieja are relatively mild in nature, they would not start or dispute territory w/ Dovii.

Obviously heavily depending on temperament of the Dovii. Do you think this would work for a few years? Obviously if the Dovii is pushing 20" its a diffent story... Mine was relatively mild mannered.

I'm sure i will catch hell for this post, cheers.

My humble opinion:

I’ve heard that a dovii can start with buddies, but 9 out of 10 snap at no uncertain time and nothing remains.

I have a 13” dovii in a 300g. He’s beautiful. However, he’s a mean nasty bastard. Tankmate? Not a chance.

May get away with it for about 2 year max.
No tank mates for my big lad, only his female.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I really enjoy your You-tube vids man, sets a good example for people to care for their fish & entertaining as well, great work!

Nice fish bud, reminds me of my old guy Wolfster before I had to re-home him due to a move.IMAG1306.jpg
