A local guy I know is selling a 300 gallon sump tank that is 60L x 38W x 30H. It has one divider running the length of the tank about six inches from the back that could be removed to make a display tank. The entire tank is half inch acrylic and I am wondering if this is thick enough for the 30 inch height? If it is not, I was thinking I could either run the tank a bit shallower, or cut the top off and replace the bracing making the tank shorter. I could also cut it apart and create a completely different tank with the panels. Would any of these ideas work? What is generally seen as the safe limit for half inch acrylic?

That is what I've been hearing. I was thinking about cutting the top 6" off the tank and putting in new eurobracing. That leaves me with a 60L x 38W x 24H tank. Would be this be safe for half inch acrylic? I know the 240 gals are the same height and are half inch.

Ive done something similar. I ended up just cutting off the divider with with a oscillating tool. After i cut off the divider, I sanded and polished off the the cut areas. No one can ever tell the divider was there after I was done.
