Hello Everyone,
I'm a newbie to the site:).I've been keeping fish for quite a few years. And really love it. Now I am wanting to get a 300 eventually but I am trying to get all information that I can as in what I would need as far as pumps and that sort of thing what is the best. Also I am wanting to use sand can someone please tell me the pro's and con's of using sand. The tank will be a South American cichlid tank. Also planted. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have no experience with W/D filters yet.

As for sand I did a big switch from gravel to sand a little while ago in my 150 and I have to say that it is so much easier to keep the tank clean, the waste sits on top of the sand and doesnt pass through to the bottom of the tank like it can with gravel.

I guess the con is that you loose a very minimal amount of sand during a water change.

I am getting a 300 in the spring 96x31x24, I plan on running 2x FX5 and a W/D filter since the W/D filters arent that great at mechanical filtration.
