Hello, kind of a double edged sword here but I'm looking to minimize the changing of filter socks in my basement sump. It's elevated on a shelf so it becomes a real chore. I'm willing to sacrifice a little to get this done. Has anyone had success with 300 micron socks?

Try it out. They're pretty cheap. I run 150 and 200 microns on my tank. I've never run 300 microns.

If you want to go longer between changes, just add more socks. Or buy the really long ones.

I had a similar issue.
So I made two filter sock liners using filter floss. Hot glue gunned. The seams,
I use walmart, quilt backing as filter material.

I use the nylon screen type. That plug up quicker than the felt type.
I have one covering a 4" 200 micron sock. The diy poly floss sock will plug up first, most of the time.
My first 200 micron 6" x 12 sock lasted 16 hours at 400 gph. It filters 20 cichlids, 1 pleco and an algae scrubber.
With two 3/4" thick poly floss diy, sock liners it will last about 5 days.
Hot gluing the socks is very easy, and materials for 50 socks is less than $10.
They can be rinsed out once, before they are destroyed.
The heavy felt, I got some marketed for air vents, can be reused numerous times, makes a good 1st layer.

I like your ideas. It's challenging because I don't have a bunch of room in the sump to add more socks. It's a 75 gallon with 2 big pvc co2 reactors, - ton of matrix and a submersible pump. I've tried to run 7x32s but they can't open all the way.

Are you guys saying you make sort of a frame and put floss in it then just replace the floss? Or, is the floss the sock?
