I have a 300 Liter tank ( 55 Gal ) , currently with an Oscar , GRFG , and a Pleco but they will be moving into a 6x2x2 foot tank in a month or two , so i will have the 300 Liter tank empty but i would like some ideas on what fish i could put in it after the Oscar and that have been moved out .

Some large Cichlids would be nice but any other Cichlid would great .

They cannt get to big as i wont be able to get a bigger tnk for them so something which will grow to a nice size but not out growthe tank .

Plaese post some ideas on what Cichlids i could look for ( pics would be great too ) .

the tank is a 300 Uk Liter or 55 Gal 4x2x2 Foot tank with a TetraTec 1200 exturnal filter and a sand substrate

I was thinking on a small group of Severums , parrots and Port Acara with a Pleco ,

something like that what do you all think ?

something less common perhaps like Uaru, yes im biased as i have 2. either type of uaru but you will pay more for uaru Fernandezyepezi (aka panda uaru). 4 should fit ok in a 4x2x2. if you do get uaru i would suggest a 2nd filter running as not only are they less common but have they the price tag to match and a 2nd filter will be a good running backup if you pay £60+ per uaru F.
sevs go well with uaru so 2 sevs and 2 uaru. i suggest 2 uaru as they like to be in groups and will be far more active.
BTW a 4x2x2 is 120 US gallons, 99 ish Imperial gallons or 450 ish litres. so you have a larger volume to work with than you thought which can only be good news :).

Nice , ill have a look at them fish see if i can get them at my LFS , what info i can also find about htem on the net and thanks for correcting me on my tank size , i thought i was a 300liter tank as that is what i was told by the guy a bought it from 4 months ago .

Anyone else got some thought on some nice Cichlids ? .

TBH its such a large selection that you need to help out a little with what type of personality you want (aggression etc), how big they get eventually and if you want a single wet pet or lots of smaller cichlids.

I would really like a mixed species tank , largeish Cichlids would be great but nothing which would outgrow the tank as i wont be able to get a bigger tank for them .

I dont really want anything too small but if i could get away with some small and some large Cichlids that would be good .

The tank will be setup with a sand substrate with some rounded rocks large fake plants and some tunnels .

i was looking at getting some Malawis , but now i have had secand thoughts on them for this tank as i has another 4 foot tank which will setup for some of them , i was at my LFS and was looking at some Parrots and some Severums but i really am not sure so this is why i am asking for some of your help , they also had some Firemouths and jack demseys which looked very nice but i am really confused ! .

GT's are much better looking than jacks IMO but, and its a big but, ive never owned a jack so i have no idea what they look like face to face, cameras may not do them justice. GT's also get slightly larger i think, male jacks 10" and male GT 12", so IMO make a better centre piece.
GT's are a good centre piece and generally go ok with smaller cichlids that will not challenge them. i put 2 x 20p size uaru A in with my 6" GT and he guarded them, which was bizarre. i wouldnt do it again willy nilly though as i suspect he was probably a one in a thousand GT with that good a personality.
my gold sev was more aggressive but lacked the power to fight him on his level. cons (make sure the GT is larger IME), oscars (GT larger as O's can be bullies if given a chance), firemouths, sevs, uaru (greatly depends on the GT tho as they are very peaceful), HRP etc. a lot depends on the individual fish tho with cichlids. what has worked for me may not work for you.

ok thanks , any more fish that you think would work well together ad not out grow the tank ?

Any more thoughts please .

I was looking on the net today , got a bit bored and made a little stock list , not really sure if it will work but please put any thoughts of yours down too and help me please , saving up a bit of money at the moment for the fish ,came up with this but i am getting really confused on what i should get .

Humbug Catfish
Pictus Catfish
Gibbiceps Sailfin Pleco
Blue Acara
Gold Severum
Green Severum
Jewel Cichlid
Yellow Belly Salvini Cichlid

Not sure on how many of each yet but these are the fish i am liking and thinking on getting .
