im taking delivery of a 7x3x2 in 6 weeks.
plan is to use a sump and run it using 2 aquamedic OR6500.
http://www.aqua-medic.com/products/docs/OR_Pumps.pdf

so my question is what size holes do i get drilled for my return and output?

i was thinking 1" for the pump side and 1.5" for the return to sump?
will that be sufficient? or will i need to go bigger?

1.5" drain depending on how you plumb your system can handle all the flow you need

I might suggest a better pump - look at a reeflo dart. Pumps the same as 2 of those for less wattage, higher efficiency, and the cost is a bit less. It's a way better pump. It is also external which gives you some flexibility there.

I'm running a pair of q1 6000's because I didnt want to drill and I wanted a bit of redundancy. I'm pushing about 1200 gph per pump with headloss. I use (2) 1" returns and (2) 1 1/2" drains run Herbie style. I also have (2) 1 1/2" emergency drains. I run both mains into a 2" gate and I swear it's only about 10% of the way open. 1 1/2" drains at full siphon can handle all your flow easily IMO.

bump - anyone else have a better pump recommendation or any better ideas for the sump?

Way overcomplicated. I'm not sure what you're asking for. I think people have given good suggestions...
