I'm going to be finishing my basement and have decided to put a 96x30x25 aquarium built into the wall between the laundry room and the living room and wanted to get some advice during the planning phase. The tank will be a tanganyika african tank with kilesa as the main fish and the tank will have plenty of texas holey rock

What is the best place to get a new tank from? I was planning on going to glasscages.com

What should I do for filtration? The sump that you can add on gc is an extra $1k so I was thinking that I would just get a bare 75g and convert it but was wondering if there is something else that doesn't cost as much like a wet dry or maybe a fluval FX6 at which point I wouldn't need to make it reef ready. Are the gc tanks drilled in the bottom or the side for RR? If it's just the side I could get it drilled later in life incase I want to do something different with the tank.

I got a quote from gc and it looks like I can get a 300g reef ready with glass tops and delivered for $2.5k

Is there anything else I should know about getting what to me is a very large tank?

If you are buying a tank, the builder should drill holes to your specifications. The builder should also install overflow boxes, etc., if you want them. Call GC and ask them what they can do for you.

I agree with pacu mom, holes could be drilled so that the sump system is kept in the laundry room for out of sight filter maitanence, easy plumbing for water changes (drain and fill) etc etc.

You might inquire about a star fire tank from SC Aquariums. I’ve been very happy with mine so far. It was predrilled and complete with herbie overflow box and plumbing. They will do custom tanks.
