getting a 300 gal. tank end of the month. i would like to have everything in order to set it up. sooo now i need a filter most canisters are only rated 1/3 of what i need. found a pond filter that seems to me is just a big canister filter. it is called fish mate pressurized uv + bio filter. anyone have or used one? that w/ a 900 gph pump aught work??? any ideas suggetions etc.

diy sump, go as big as you want, as much gph as you want. customizable for any application... im using 1 huge sump to filter 3 different tanks on my next setup.

with the sump are we talking just bio media. i would still need mechanical filrtation and the canisters arent big enough by them selfs.

you can put mechanical filters on top of the bio media. I have a few tanks that run one just wet/dry filters. (265 and 300 included)

rallysman do you have any pics of your systems. just to help visulise.:naughty:

go with a w/d system. Get as big as a sump you can, and look for plastic bins that you can put on top of the tank/sump to house your mechanical media.

This is my diy WD, its a 20g high with a plastic drawer/bin that I put in the pads. This is a smaller scale, but I'm sure you can adapt it to a larger WD system.:grinno:

OK wet/dry seems simple enuf to make. all one needs is a hog waterer, some bio media ( bio balls, pot scrubbers, etc.) , foam blocks for mechanical filtration, and a pump. and now the 64,000 dollar question. how much water turn over. i am guessing too much is bad and too little is useless. any suggestions on a gph.
