I am setting my up now. I use 2 fx5's as prefilters, and they dump the water into a 55g rubbermaid filled with bioballs, which eventually runs off back into the tank

two fx5's sounds like overkill.....

Most people diy a filter for the 300 rubbermaids... U can use 55 gallon
drum(s), filter socks, and pot scrubbies...

will you take some pics for me please

like I said, it's not setup

since most people run a gravity fed filter back to the tank on those it might be easier to run one filter for each tank if you are running two 300s. Pump runs water up above tank to 55 gallon drum and it trickles through filter media and is fed back into tank by gravity. If you search around the indor pond section you are sure to find the system I am talking about.

I just think it would be easier to run two seperate filters than to make sure both tanks got the same amount of return to them...
