Hey. I am thinking of putting a 300gal rubbermaid in my garage to raise koi and have some questions....

what filter and heater would be good for this?

where is the best place to buy koi(small)?

are koi profitable?

how long do they take to grow?

where would I sell them once they are big?

ive never had koi before so any info would help...

thanks

Type in "300 gal rubbermaid" into the search feature and you'll find at least a few hits...

Type Koi into Google and you'll get tons of info...

Once you have more refined questions I'm sure there will be a number of people eager to help out but with this many vague questions your asking us to write a book in response...

1) Koi's don't need heaters. They are cold water fish like carps and common goldfish. What are you planning to do during the winter? As Koi's grow you will need bigger filters to keep up with there bio load. Koi's produce a lot of waste. How many Koi's are you think about keeping?
2) Koi's have different grades. You will need to do your research on Koi's. Understand the different breeds. Once you look enough you will understand which Koi's worth money and which ones are not.
3) Growth rate depends on the breed. Some breed grow faster than others. For example Kohaku's is one of the faster growing of the Koi's.
4) Could not answer this question for you.

The truth is a 300 gallon rubber maid is to small to raise Koi's. Just do some research and you will see what I mean.
