Do you reptile pros think he is ready for a 24"high tank?

I dont have any decor in the tank and was thinking of putting one of those fake floating plastic rocks that the suction cups hold on the acrylic.

Does it sound good enough for him?
I am afraid to try it and then he drowns on accident (my daughter would be pissed at me if that happened)

Thanks for thr feedback

Musks aren't the best swimmers so having something they can rest on near the surface would be a wise idea. I find mine enjoy "walking" to the surface on an angled piece of driftwood I have running from the bottom of the tank to the water line. My male stinkpot often sleeps on it half out of the water.

I was thinking about something from Petco that is something ike 1" tall. That would mean he would have to swim about 28" since I have an overflow with about a 1" gap from surface to top of tank.

I think my biggest Q is are Turtles smart enough to remember where to swim back for a small pc of land?
Is it worth the try??

you need something for them to climb on to get to the top of the water and then to get out of the water. Otherwise, it should be fine.

yes, they are very smart for their size actually.

Alright, Thanks guys. I am not a turtle person but look forward to seeing the tankmates together :D

I would say its kind of risky. Put lots of stuff like roots and wood well secured. VERY IMPORTANT: make shure your turtle cant get stuck or wedje himself in a underwater corner where it will have troble getting out.

I agree with coura, you'll want to give him some large driftwood-type piece of structure that he can climb on, rather than him having to swim all the way to the top to catch a breath. I haven't kept razorbacks, but I have kept loggerheads, and the loggies were somewhat clumsy swimmers; they could swim but I think forcing them to swim 24"+ for a breath would have been a little risky.

Thanks all, I am going to hold off till he is bigger :D
