hi guys just want to confirm that size, anyways i have a 30G tank with 30x12x20 with a wooden stand of 30inch tall.so i want to upgrade this tank by building a new one but a taller tank because i think my wooden stand is quite strong so i can build a tall tank with 30x12x30 tall with 8mm glass will this work?? because my LFS guy said dont make it too tall just go for 30x12x24 but that remains 37G but with 30x12x30 is about 47G which will be good pick, i guess...so what should i do i hope some one can give me a good idea for it.waiting for the replys.

You will not find any aquarium companies building an aquarium with a safety factor of 2 as it is considered the minimum.Using 8mm would allow more than a safe amount of delfelction in the glass.
With a safety factor of 2 you should use 9mm glass as 9 mm is not a standard size I would suggest 10mm should be used,if you use 10mm glass you will have a safety factor of 2.9. If it were my tank I would be using 10mm.
The above info was taken from a UK aquarium companies safety calculator.

well 10mm and 9mm glass is not available here as my LFS guy said that 8mm will be okay but he said it will look awkward as you will not be able to clean or maintain the tank cannot move plant and toys etc etc as one user just said 8mm will be okay

Seems surprising that they can get 8mm glass but not 10,maybe we are lucky in the UK that glass upto 19mm is fairly easy to get hold of.
Well good luck with the tank we all know that LFS are always very honest in there advice :ROFL:I certainly would not want to take that risk with 8mm glass at 30" tall but your tank and your floor. From your first post it seem your LFS guy is suggesting 24" tall which would be much safer with 8mm, if he think's 30" tall with 8mm is OK then that is bad advice IMO

The maintanance issue is another thing, yes 30" deep will be a problem unless you have very long arms.
